Privacy Policy
Your calculator inputs never leave your browser. PointTally computes your CRS score entirely on your device — nothing you type is sent to us or stored on a server. Cookie consent is default-denied: no advertising or analytics cookie loads until you choose "Accept all", and you can reject just as easily. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your rights under Canadian PIPEDA and the EU GDPR.

Who we are
PointTally is an independent CRS calculator operated by a registered Canadian business (the "data controller"). You can reach us at hello@crscalculatorcanada.com or via the contact page for any privacy question or data-rights request.
What we collect — and what we do not
- Calculator inputs: not collected. Age, education, language levels and the rest are processed locally in your browser to compute a score. They are never transmitted to us, never logged, and never stored on a server. If you choose to save a result, it is stored only in your own browser's local storage, with no personal identifier.
- Anonymous analytics (only after consent): aggregate, non-identifying usage data (such as which pages are viewed) to understand what is useful. These cookies load only if you accept.
- Advertising (only after consent, and only after approval): once the site carries advertising, an advertising partner (Google, via AdSense) may set cookies to serve and measure ads. These load only if you accept; on reject, only non-personalised ads are served.
- Email, only if you send one: if you email us, we keep that message to reply and for our records, then delete it when it is no longer needed.
Cookies & consent (default-denied)
When you first visit, a consent banner appears and nothing third-party loads until you decide. "Reject all" is presented as prominently as "Accept all" — there are no pre-ticked boxes and no nudge styling. Your choice is remembered in your browser so you are not asked again on every visit; you can change it any time by clearing the site's cookies/local storage in your browser settings.
- Strictly-necessary: the small record of your consent choice and any locally-saved result. These do not require consent and carry no personal identifier.
- Analytics & advertising: loaded only after "Accept all". On "Reject all" they are not loaded, and any advertising served is non-personalised.
Advertising & Google AdSense
After the site is approved for advertising, we expect to use Google AdSense. Where it applies, Google is a data processor and may use cookies or device identifiers to serve and measure ads. We operate a consent-first stack: Google's advertising tags are loaded only after you give advertising consent, and on reject we instruct Google to serve non-personalised ads only. We do not use auto-injected ad units, and we never target or vary ads by any protected attribute. You can review and control Google's use of advertising data via Google's own advertising and privacy controls.
Automated computation (transparency)
PointTally is an automated calculator: it applies a fixed public formula to the numbers you enter and returns an estimate. It makes no decision about you, stores no profile of you, and the result has no legal or official effect — only IRCC makes immigration decisions. The computation runs in your browser and produces the same output for the same inputs every time.
Legal bases (EU / EEA visitors — GDPR)
If you visit from the EU/EEA or UK, we process data on these bases:
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) for analytics and advertising cookies — freely given, and withdrawable at any time with the same ease it was given.
- Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) for strictly-necessary site operation and security, balanced against your rights.
Your GDPR rights include access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection, and withdrawal of consent. Because we do not collect identifying data through the calculator, most requests will concern email correspondence or cookie preferences. To exercise a right, email us; we respond within one month. You may also complain to your local supervisory authority.
Canadian visitors — PIPEDA
For Canadian visitors, we follow the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA): we collect only what is needed, use it only for the stated purposes, obtain consent for analytics/advertising cookies, and let you access or correct any personal information we hold about you. Quebec residents have additional rights under Quebec's Law 25; you may direct any such request to the contact above. You may also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Data sharing & international transfers
We do not sell personal information. The only third party that may receive data is our advertising/analytics provider (Google), and only after you consent. Google may process data outside your country under its own safeguards. We share information otherwise only where required by law.
Retention
Locally-saved results and your consent choice live in your browser until you clear them — we never see them. Email correspondence is kept only as long as needed to handle your query. Aggregate analytics, where enabled, are retained in non-identifying form.
Children
PointTally is a general-audience planning tool and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

We may update this policy as the site or the law changes; the "Last updated" date above reflects the latest version. Material changes will be noted on this page.
